Shane's R2 Build Log

Attaching Resin Booster Covers

The booster covers I used in my build were cast in resin by Keith Henry. What you see is what you get.

They don't come pre-drilled for anything. Apart from painting, that's really all you have to do to these pieces. I initially began the process of measuring where all the mounting holes were on my JAG legs. At some point, however, I found drill templates from Guy Vardaman. I imported the booster cover template into Adobe Illustrator, scaled it appropriately, and then printed it out.

I taped the templates to the booster covers and used a drill punch to mark the drill locations.

I chucked a 9/64" drill bit, taped off the half-inch mark, and then drilled out four holes.

I then tapped all of the holes for 10-24 machine screws.

With the booster covers tapped, I then screwed in 10-24 1/2" machine screws. The screws don't go all the way in. Just enough of the screw sticks out so that it can be slotted into the JAG legs.
